Today I want to talk a little about the dreaded computer virus. The goal of this article is to teach you, the home user, the fundamental skills needed to help detect, remove, and most importantly prevent viruses from infecting your computer. As the owner of a computer consulting business, I have seen 1st hand how much damage computer viruses can do. To help protect yourself from a virus attack, it will be necessary to understand exactly what a virus is. A virus is essentially a software program designed with malicious intentions, to copy itself and spread from one computer to another. What makes a virus so dangerous is what they are designed to do.

A virus, once installed on your computer, can easily corrupt or delete data from your computer. This can be anything from your latest Word document to the irreplaceable pictures of your loved ones. We will get into exactly what a virus can do later in this article. Now that you have an idea of what a virus is and what it can do to your computer, lets discuss how your computer gets infected. I have heard countless times from people, ” But I did not open any email attachments, how can I be infected?” While it is true that a majority of viruses are hidden within email attachments, they can also be downloaded into our computers in the form of images, videos, or even instant messages. I have personally removed a virus from Cd’s, jump drives, and floppy disks.

Lets talk about ways to help protect your computer from viruses. To protect your computer from these threats it is vital that you have an anti virus program installed and up to date. I have seen many times in the field computers that have anti virus programs but still are infected with a virus. Let me point out that not all anti virus programs are equal. I will not discuss in this article which anti virus program you should or should not use however email me and I will be happy to help you in that aspect. Your anti virus program will do you little good if you do not keep your definitions up to date. New virus are being identified all the time so it is vital to keep your anti virus program up to date on the latest threats. Another proven method is to use a firewall.

A firewall is essentially software or hardware that is designed to filter out information that is being sent to or from your computer. Think of a firewall as a Guard at the end of your driveway, before anyone enters your home they must first pass a set of rules or security checks you have given before they are allowed to enter your home. Some of the software-based firewalls include Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm and Trend Micro. You may be using a hardware firewall and not even know it. If you have a LAN (Local area network) then chances are you have a router of some kind. Most routers come built in with a firewall, which is very effective at protecting your computer from viruses. Another technique used to help prevent viruses is to keep your computer up to date. If you are using a windows based PC, check Windows Update often for any security patches that are released.

Do not open email attachments if you do not know the sender, this is asking for trouble. Lets move on to identifying infected computers. As a PC technician, it is my responsibility to quickly identify the signs of virus infections. Computers with virus infections will often show some of the following symptoms. Please note, that the issues listed below may be caused by several problems, such as spyware, and are not specific to viruses. Your computer may be slow to start or shut down. You may be missing data on your hard drive or, in worst case scenarios, lose all data on the drive. You may experience strange error messages or you computer will shut down unexpectedly. Your fonts may be distorted and overlap or you may experience difficulties in printing.

These are just some examples of the harm viruses can do. Now the most difficult part, removal. This is a topic worthy of its own article as there are many different procedures in virus removal. I will discuss with you the very basics. If you think you are the victim of a virus do a thorough scan of your computer. It may also be beneficial if you scan your hard drive while in safe mode. This is usually accomplished by tapping F8 at start up, but refer to your computer’s manual for instructions to be certain.

If you do not have an anti virus program, first thing to do is get one! In the meantime you may use the services of an online virus removal tool. Many of the popular anti virus programs offer this service. My intent of this article was to help inform you of the dangers virus threats can pose, as well as giving you the knowledge to help detect, remove and prevent these threats. I hope I have accomplished this, and you can walk away after reading this article, feeling more confident of your abilities to protect your computer from virus threats.

Infections causes by viruses are probably the most common of any type of infection. Colds and flus are caused by viruses. Depending on the type of virus, immunization may be successful in preventing the infection. In other cases, no prevention is realistically possible since the virus continually mutates. A virus is defined as a sub-microscopic agent that causes infection. It is unable to reproduce or grow when outside the host cell space. Scientists continue to argue whether the virus lives or not. Viruses are attacked by the immune system of the host unit. Antibiotics don’t affect viruses, but viruses can be prevented by inoculations of vaccines.

Arboviruses

Arboviruses are a shortened version of the name arthropod borne viruses. These are carried by mosquitoes and are typically transmitted to the bloodstream by biting. Many of the viruses are not infectious to humans but others are epidemic in nature and can be deadly. Examples of arboviruses today include Dengue fever, West Nile virus, Ross River virus, tick-borne encephalitis and equine encephalitis. The best treatment for arboviruses is prevention. Vector control to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and insect repellents will help eliminate the likelihood of getting bitten by the virus-carrying mosquito.

Herpes virus

Herpes virus comes in two main types, Herpes simplex virus 1 and Herpes simplex virus 2. Both are marked by watery blisters on the mucous membranes of the mouth or genitals, or on the skin. Herpes simplex virus 1 is usually found on the face, specifically the lips and is commonly known as a cold sore. Herpes simplex virus 2 is usually called genital herpes. The two viruses are similar under a microscope. The usual treatment for an outbreak of herpes simplex is acylovir as an antiviral drug. Two recent medication developments are Famciclovir and Valacyclovir. These drugs are taken orally to control the visible lesions.

Hepatitis

A hepatitis infection comes from hepatitis virus in the liver tissue. There are seven types of hepatitis, labeled from Hepatitis A to Hepatitis G. Hepatitis A is usual caused from ingestion of contaminated food and has only the acute stage. Hepatitis B is found as a result of contaminated blood, tattoos, sexual contact and breast feeding. It has both a chronic stage and an acute stage. Hepatitis C is a virus spread by blood to blood contact with an infected person’s blood and results in scarring of the liver as well as liver cancer. Hepatitis D propagates only in the presence of Hepatitis B and results in a more severe symptom set. Incidence of liver failure is at a higher rate with Hepatitis D. Hepatitis E is similar to Hepatitis A and is found mostly on the Indian subcontinent. Hepatitis F is not yet verified as a separate virus. Hepatitis G is confirmed although its exact role in viral incidence is not positively delineated.

Vaccine-preventable virus

Viruses which can be prevented by inoculations with small amounts of the virus are known as vaccine preventable viruses. The body builds up antibodies which fight off potential invasions by viruses in the future. These ten significant childhood diseases can all be prevented by inoculations: Chickenpox, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, rubeola, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type B infections.

Sexually transmitted virus

The most common sexually transmitted viruses in the United States are human papilloma viruses (HPV). Up to twenty million Americans are currently infected with the virus and it is estimated that 75% of adults have had genital HPV during their reproductive years. Genital warts are just one of the types of viruses transmitted by direct skin to skin sexual contact. These warts may have a positive correlation with the incidence of cervical cancer.

Diseases caused by viral infections

Viruses enter bloodstream and are carried from there to the brain. Diseases caused by viral infections are typically grouped into two categories: Chronic infections and acute infections. Viral diseases of the acute category usually begin quickly, while chronic viral diseases develop more slowly and are often found to progress to the point of death. Common acute viral infections cause diseases such as encephalitis, aseptic meningitis, encephalomyelitis, and flaccid paralysis. Chronic viral infections lead to diseases such as subacute-sclerosing panencephalitis, retrovirus disease and spongiform encephalopathies.

Now you can cure yeast infection using only home remedies.
Article Source

Computer Viruses:-

The world of computers and information technology is going through an era of an electronic terrorism, in the form of the computer virus. It is a problem that is potentially so dangerous that it threatens the proper functioning of the virus system in today’s information age. The virus whether biological or electronic is an information disorder. Biological viruses are tiny genetic codes DNA or RNA that take over the machinery of a living cell and are capable of marking thousand of replicas of the original virus. Like its biological counterpart, a computer virus carries in it an instructional code that makes copies of itself. Computer viruses are computer programs which are a collection of coded instructions. The basic difference between a normal program and virus is that viruses are self replicating; they have the capacity of executing themselves without being asked for. The ‘Computer virus’ is a very broad term in itself and includes not only viruses, but also worms and Trojans.

Classification of Computer viruses:-

Viruses are classified on the basic of their mode of existence and there are three categories of viruses.

1. BOOT Infector:-2. SYSTEM Infector:3. GENERAL EXECUTABLE PROGRAM Infectors:-

BOOT Infectors:-As the name suggests, they are characterized by the fact that they are physically reside in the boot sector [0] sector of the disk. A system infected by such a virus will have the virus residing in a particular area of the disk rather then in a program file. These viruses get loaded soon after the Power Of Self Test and control the system and remains in control at all times. They some times have the capacity to trap soft booting (CTRL ALT DEL) and remain in control even if the system is booted from a non infected floppy, thereby contaminating the clean floppy.

SYSTEM Infectors:-The second category of virus deals with components of the system itself. All machines without execution require an operating system in order to create an environment in which the operator works. In MS-DOS, COMMAND.COM contains all the internal commands. If no such command file exists, commands such as COPY, DIR etc. are not loaded into the memory when the machine is booted. The system infectors attach themselves to a file such as COMMAND.COM or other memory resident files and manipulate these files.

GENERAL EXECUTABLE PROGRAM Infectors:-From the infection point of view, these are most dangerous and devastating of the three classes of viruses. They attach themselves to program files and can spread to almost any executable program in any system. These viruses change the original program instructions into a “jump” to its own code and follow that code with a return to the original program. As a result, whenever the program is executed, the virus gets loaded and executed first and then allows the original program to process. It remains memory resident and infects each and every program that is loaded for execution.

Types of Viruses:-

Worms:-A worm is software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate, or affect other programs. A copy of the worm passes through the network to another machine that has a specific security hole. It then copies itself to the new machine, and then starts replicating from there.

Macros:-Macro viruses’ use commands-called macros-embedded in the other software applications to infect and spread to other files used by that software. For example, Microsoft Word and Excel have macros, and macro viruses can spread by exploiting these commands.

Boot Sector viruses:-Boot sector viruses are older types of virus and are not so common today. They used to infect computers startup programs, so that the virus would become active as soon as the computer started up.

Trojan Horses:-Trojan Horses are programs that claim to perform a particular function but which in fact do something different. For example, they could infect your computer with a virus or erase your files.

Backdoor Trojans:-Backdoor Trojans are programs that allow other computer users to remotely control your computer via a local area network or the internet.

Resident Viruses:-These types of virus hides permanently in the RAM memory. From here it can control and intercept all of the operations carried out by the system corrupting files and programs that are opened, closed, copied etc.

Direct Action Viruses:-When a specific condition is met (such as the execution of the virus) these virus will go into action and infect files in the directory or folder that it in and others as well.

Overwrite Viruses:-These types of viruses are characterized by the fact that it deletes the information contained in the files that it infects, rendering them particularly or totally useless once they have been infected.

These are the list of common problems in a computer affected with viruses.

Occurrence of strange messages, symbols or images appear on your screen. Strange things happen when you are doing routine work. The computer makes strange noises at inappropriate times. Files you know you saved are missing. The operating system acts slow, doesn’t come on or just isn’t working as normal. Files of executable extension such as .BAT, .EXE, .COM, .HLP, .DLL should never be accepted from others as they have the most potential to cause problems or be infected. All computer users should delete any unsolicited emails. We now know due to recent attacks that the Worms have begun to use Microsoft Outlook’s address book, so it will appear as if a friend has sent you an email. If you are not expecting an email or the file name is different from the one you are expecting, delete the email and its attachment. Electronic Mail text messages cannot in themselves contain viruses. The text portion of a message is just text, and if read, does not contain damaging system codes. If, however, you receive an email message with an attachment, be very careful. File attachments, if executed, CAN launch viruses

List of common computer viruses

OPRAH WINFREY VIRUS: Your 200MB hard drive suddenly shrinks to 80MB, and then slowly expands back to 200MB. AT&T VIRUS: Every three minutes it tells you what great service you are getting. MCI VIRUS: Every three minutes it reminds you that you’re paying too much for the AT&T virus. PAUL REVERE VIRUS: This revolutionary virus does not horse around. It warns you of impending hard disk attack—once if by LAN, twice if by C:>. POLITICALLY CORRECT VIRUS: Never calls itself a “virus”, but instead refers to itself as an “electronic microorganism.” RIGHT TO LIFE VIRUS: Won’t allow you to delete a file, regardless of how old it is. If you attempt to erase a file, it requires you to first see a counselor about possible alternatives. ROSS PEROT VIRUS: Activates every component in your system, just before the whole darn thing quits. MARIO CUOMO VIRUS: It would be a great virus, but it refuses to run. TED TURNER VIRUS: Colorizes your monochrome monitor. ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER VIRUS: Terminates and stays resident. It’ll be back. DAN QUAYLE VIRUS #2: Their is sumthing rong wit your komputer, ewe jsut cant figyour out watt! GOVERNMENT ECONOMIST VIRUS: Nothing works, but all your diagnostic software says everything is fine. NEW WORLD ORDER VIRUS: Probably harmless, but it makes a lot of people really mad just thinking about it. FEDERAL BUREAUCRAT VIRUS: Divides your hard disk into hundreds of little units, each of which does practically nothing, but all of which claim to be the most important part of your computer. GALLUP VIRUS: Sixty percent of the PCs infected will lose 38 percent of their data 14 percent of the time. (plus or minus a 3.5 percent margin of error.) TERRY RANDALL VIRUS: Prints “Oh no you don’t” whenever you choose “Abort” from the “Abort” “Retry” “Fail” message. TEXAS VIRUS: Makes sure that it’s bigger than any other file. ADAM AND EVE VIRUS: Takes a couple of bytes out of your Apple. CONGRESSIONAL VIRUS: The computer locks up, screen splits erratically with a message appearing on each half blaming the other side for the problem. AIRLINE VIRUS: You’re in Dallas, but your data is in Singapore. FREUDIAN VIRUS: Your computer becomes obsessed with marrying its own motherboard. PBS VIRUS: Your programs stop every few minutes to ask for money. ELVIS VIRUS: Your computer gets fat, slow and lazy, then self destructs; only to resurface at shopping malls and service stations across rural America. OLLIE NORTH VIRUS: Causes your printer to become a paper shredder. NIKE VIRUS: Just does it. SEARS VIRUS: Your data won’t appear unless you buy new cables, power supply and a set of shocks. JIMMY HOFFA VIRUS: Your programs can never be found again. CONGRESSIONAL VIRUS #2: Runs every program on the hard drive simultaneously, but doesn’t allow the user to accomplish anything. KEVORKIAN VIRUS: Helps your computer shut down as an act of mercy. IMELDA MARCOS VIRUS: Sings you a song (slightly off key) on boot up, then subtracts money from your Quicken account and spends it all on expensive shoes it purchases through Prodigy. STAR TREK VIRUS: Invades your system in places where no virus has gone before. HEALTH CARE VIRUS: Tests your system for a day, finds nothing wrong, and sends you a bill for $4,500. GEORGE BUSH VIRUS: It starts by boldly stating, “Read my docs….No new files!” on the screen. It proceeds to fill up all the free space on your hard drive with new files, then blames it on the Congressional Virus. CLEVELAND INDIANS VIRUS: Makes your 486/50 machine perform like a 286/AT. LAPD VIRUS: It claims it feels threatened by the other files on your PC and erases them in “self defense”. CHICAGO CUBS VIRUS: Your PC makes frequent mistakes and comes in last in the reviews, but you still love it. ORAL ROBERTS VIRUS: Claims that if you don’t send it a million dollars, it’s programmer will take it back. Visit Computer World to read secret computer tricks, tips to solve computer problems and lots more Vinod Nadar
Article Source

Spyware, viruses, Trojan horses, worms, rootkit and other types of malicious software seems to be the most annoying problems that computer users encounter on the internet. And of course, even you will understand just what kind of dilemma they can be once you experienced the effects of this malwares yourself. From computers behaving weirdly, to slowing down of operating programs, and down to the actual stealing of your personal information by hackers and identity thefts. Fear of this from happening – and to further protect and promote their investment, which is a good thing rather – computer manufacturers resorted to developing of certain types of software programs designed to combat these harmful web contents. Some of which comes complete with installation guides on disks that can be bought from computer stores, while others resort to downloading of free spyware on the internet. It is for free what more could you ask? Or would you rather pay for the same thing that you can get online of which is of a much newer and upgraded version?THE DARK AND LIGHT SIDE OF THINGSDo not be confused by the headline because this simply means the pros and cons of a thing; in this case, comparing of the free spyware that can be obtained online from the anti-spyware kit that can be bought from computers stores. With both the good and bad sides presented altogether for an unbiased assessment. To start with, the positive and negative sides of free anti spyware:PROS: You can easily find unlimited anti-spyware resources on the internet. Just use any search engine you want, type the words ‘anti spyware’ then enter, and you will get more than ten pages of anti-spyware and antivirus programs that can be obtained for free on the internet. More or less, these anti spyware software programs also feature the same specifications and functions such as: scanning of your disks and file data in search of identified malicious contents; cleaning, or “healing” to use the term, of infected systems and files; while those that cannot be removed can also be quarantined to prevent it from further infecting the rest of your computer system; preventing trackers from monitoring your web activity; some anti spyware programs come with a personal firewall to help protect your computers; removes and blocks identified malware in your system, among others. CONS:The greatest concern for free anti spyware software perhaps would be the credibility of the anti spyware program you are going to get. You might not be aware of this but some manufactures of anti spyware programs have delved deeper into the subject and discovered some dubious types of free anti spyware programs that can be downloaded. Yes, they are real anti spyware programs rest assured; but, once you download the software, they come equipped with unwanted trackers, rootkit, key loggers and more. And, the positive and negative sides of anti spyware software programs that can be bought from computer stores:PROS:If you are going to buy anti spyware kits from computer stores, you are assured that once you installed it and it did not work, you can always go to the store and inform them of the problem. Even if your computer suffered malfunctions after you installed the program, you can take your pc to the said store and have them check it out – for free too. Also, since the software comes in a complete disc package that you can install without needing to log on the web, you are not susceptible to potential malwares that can be obtained by downloading contents from the web. CONS:Yes, they come in complete disc packages. Meaning, whatever types of anti spyware programs released or made available on the market – that is the only thing you will get. You cannot possibly obtain the latest and most up-to-date types of anti spyware developed unless they have hit the market. Not to mention that you are not supported with free online downloads for the latest security upgrades, you have to buy them every now and then.

If you encounter a virus attack, do something at once to prevent the spread of the virus to your system. First, concentrate on the kind of virus to remove the malicious code. There are tools which are available online tailored for that specific virus causing the damage. Next is to see the range of the damage done. If the operating system is completely destroyed, you will have to reinstall. This can be done by using the quick restore CD that comes with your computer. But before you start the process, make sure that you have the necessary information like licenses, registration and serial numbers available. Then do a thorough virus scan of your network. Be sure your anti-virus software is recently updated and that your security patches are up-to-date to prevent future attacks. The AVG free edition anti-virus is the most common used anti-virus software or protection tool. AVG is enclosed with automatic updates whenever you turn on your computers. In fact, for as long as the product lives, the user of this protection tool will be privileged to make use of it. AVG Free is trouble-free to use and will not slow your system down (low system resource requirements). Special Features include automatic update functionality, AVG Resident Shield that provides real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run, free Virus Database Updates for the lifetime of the product, and AVG Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files. Both spyware and a computer virus are forms of unwanted or malware (malicious software) that can be harmful and give nuisance to your computer. The difference is that spyware collects information without any notice or consent. Spyware will not actually harm or corrupt the data on your computer but as stated earlier, it can give nuisance because it takes control or your computer. Anti-virus programs or software cannot remove spyware, so there is still further study of some anti-virus developer to create an antivirus that also features anti-spyware. There is a lot of ways on how Spyware can be installed on your computer. One is via virus and another is by being secretly attached to the software that you want to install or download. Furthermore, spyware is a specific type of malware that collects information about you and your computer, without you knowing it. Meanwhile, virus is just a specific way of having spyware get into your computer and be secretly distributed via e-mail or instant messaging. A firewall is like a guard that allows or prohibits intruders to the network. It has a control policy that indicates and dictates what should be denied and permitted to access the network in order to protect the network from any harm. It is a preventive measure and not completely the solution to viruses or any harmful things that can be acquired in the internet. It is designed to protect and not to heal infected data. Firewall is not able to do that. Unlike anti-virus software, it updates and scans the memory or programs when you reboot your computer. During the reboot, it can detect whether there are viruses, the location of the viruses and eventually cure it. Anti-virus software is designed for the purpose of healing and detecting harmful virus on your computer. In other words, even if the viruses had infected some parts of the data saved in your computer, it is still capable of adjusting allowing its features to cure the infected area. Compared to a firewall, it is designed only to protect and guard the network due to its control policy.

Now a day, we need web site. Who have ability to pay; they take paid domain & hosting. Who have no ability; they take free domain & free hosting. Actually, no any site in the world provides free .com, .net, .org etc. like these domains completely free of cost. But, some company demand they provide free domain! Well, here I take an example. www.con.tl says, they are providing completely free domain & free cpanel hosting without any ads! Actually, they provide sub-domain! So, real domain never is completely free of cost. But, sub domain can be free.

So what is the problem & benefits of free domain?

If we take our example site con.tl offer, they are providing sub-domain of con.tl, movi.name, cit.bz, dhk.me . This is actually not so prestigious. Even, the future selling value of these domains is may be not too high. But, the facility is its totally free of cost. They provide free cpanel hosting with webmail/pop mail facilities. So, we can use this domain for commercial purpose as well. If we want, we can develop our personal or company web site completely free of cost. Besides, we can develop an adsense income related site & earn money using this domain & hosting. It is also helpful for short name domain. For .com domain, we can’t find a good small name now a day. But, we can get a super name from here. So, its really wonderful on this sense. Like, we can take www.accounting.con.tl . But, we can’t get like this name on .com domain. So, if we are not ready to pay money, free domain is best for us.

Now question is what is the advantage & disadvantage of paid domain?

First of all we need to know the price of paid domain. If I take an example of paid domain provide. Presently world cheapest domain provider is www.expressdomain.cn they take $5.99 per .com, .net & .org domain. The main disadvantage is, if we take a paid domain, we must need to pay at list $5.99! This is the big disadvantage. Besides, we need to pay renew charge every year. So, it’s a costly item. But, if you run a professional organization, you must need to take a paid domain for your organization prestige. Besides, the sales value of paid domain is always high. If you have a paid domain & the name is wonderful, you can easily sale that domain.

So, my suggestion is, if you have a commercial organization, you may take both domains at a time. Free domain for short name & paid domain for your professionalism.

Let’s talk a little about the impact of viruses, Internet related threats and how they effect your computer and privacy.

First off, is it really necessary to have anti-virus and firewall software installed on your computer? Afterall, with only 200 new threats created daily, who really cares? Is it really that big of a deal if hackers are able to access your computer, look through your data, user names, passwords, and account information? Seriously, is identitiy theft really that important to you? Or what about the viruses that cause your computer to go so slow you think you will never be able to load your Internet browser. Why should you worry about malware that can cause your system files to be destroyed or your favorite family photos stored on your computer to disappear in an instant? Does it concern you that your email can be sent to thousands of spam sites and pop-ups are all over your screen offering you software to fix your computer?

Any idea what causes these types of issues? How about malware, which broken down is short for malicious software such as viruses, trojans, worms, rootkits, spyware, adware, I think you get the point. Oh wait, I forgot, you have a customized super sized computer that is not vulnerable to viruses. When I hear people tell me this, I tend to wait and act surprised when they come back saying, “oh no, I got a virus”.

It does not matter how sophisticated your computer is, you are vulnerable to malware! If you don’t have internet security software installed on your pc, you are at risk of being infected with viruses, spyware and even hackers that want nothing more than to steal your information.

So what should you do now that you already have viruses on your computer? Well you could download the latest internet security software and hope it will detect, delete or repair the infected files. Many times you will have to do a re-format of your harddrive which will cause you to lose everything on your computer so be sure to save what you want first. If you do a re-format, it has to be done properly, or it will not delete the viruses. I would recommend you to contact your local computer shop.

Although Internet security and anti-virus software will protect you against these threats, no software is guaranteed to block 100% of all malware. Many of these threats are found on websites that you visit and files that you download such as video’s, music and pictures. If you use peer to peer file sharing, I am sure you already know all about viruses and spyware. Want a hint? Stop downloading from those sites and you will stop getting viruses.

Okay, here are a couple internet security software programs I recommend that offer the best protection, features and support. First is Security Shield 2008, this is a rebrand of F-Secure and is absolutely amazing and easy to use. Another is Kaspersky Internet Security, another well designed software program with hourly updates.

Now that most people use the internet these days, it is a very good idea to make sure that you have good quality computer security software installed and protecting your computer. Anti virus software, anti spyware software and having a hardware or software firewall are now essential for everyone using a computer and here is an explanation why this is so. Anti Virus software protects your computer from virus threats that can contaminate your computer and can slow down your computer, damage your files or even damage your computers hard drive requiring you to reformat your hard drive and needing to reinstall your operating system in order to get things back to normal. So as you can see anti virus software is an essential thing to have if you want to keep your computer healthy and free from viruses. It is not enough just to install the anti virus software however, you will also need to keep it up to date in order to protect your computer from new anti virus threats, fortunately this is easy to do as most anti virus software programs let you update their anti virus files over the internet. So what is anti spyware software exactly? Well anti spyware software is another kind of security program which protects your computer against all kinds of undesirables, such as spyware, keystroke loggers, malware, tracking cookies, dialers, trojans and unwanted commercial software. All of these things should be removed from your computer so that your computer security is not compromised. A good quality antispyware software program will protect your identity from unscrupulous people, hackers and fraudsters so that you can have peace of mind. A computer firewall is either a software program or a hardware device which only allows authorised users to access your computer system and stops all unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer through the internet or a network. So a firewall stops malicious users from accessing your system and this is absolutely essential if you use the internet, especially if you have an always on broadband connection on your computer. So which is better to have a software firewall or a hardware firewall? Well a software firewall will give you good firewall protection, but the absolute best firewall to have is a hardware one because this is even harder to get past for a malicious user. So in summary, if you do not already have an antivirus program, an anti spyware program and a firewall, then you really should look into getting these things as they will save you a lot of hassle and worry in the future.
